Choosing a memorial

When a loved one passes away, choosing a memorial can be a meaningful way to remember them. Our options are located across Astwood and, to a lesser extent, St John’s, and range from plaques and benches to living memorials. Every memorial includes some form of inscription — included in the price on our newer items, or available at a small additional cost.

Ways to remember

Book of Remembrance

Add an inscription to our remembrance books, kept in a quiet room at the crematorium with views across the gardens.

Wall plaques

Bronze plaques inside the crematorium, or granite and bronze plaques on the curved remembrance wall outside.

Granite kerb sets

Single or double granite kerb sets to mark ashes placed in the gardens.

Ailsa Craig boulder

A natural granite marker stone with an inscription.

Memorial benches

Benches in traditional wood, or granite (the Barbican bench with two recesses).

Above-ground ashes

The Single Sanctum 2000 in blue granite lets you access and relocate ashes if you move away.

Introduced more recently, for families looking for something less traditional.

Living memorials & the memorial tree

You can also plant a memorial shrub or tree of your choice, with a granite or bronze spiked plaque — we’ll help you pick the right option for the spot you have in mind. Or remember a loved one on our bespoke steel memorial tree opposite the crematorium office: it stands 3.2m high and is designed to oxidise into warm autumnal colours, with gold-coloured anodised aluminium leaves that can be engraved on both sides.
