A funeral director helps organise every part of a funeral — liaising with you, the council and other providers, and overseeing all the arrangements. As a council we can’t recommend a particular funeral director, but the Good Funeral Guide is a helpful place to start.
Transferring the person into the funeral home, or helping if you’d like them to remain at home; facilities for viewing; dealing with all the necessary paperwork; and placing death notices in local or national papers and online.
Making sure your wishes, and those of the person who died, are reflected; arranging music and special tributes; funeral vehicles and catering; Order of Service sheets; floral tributes; a choice of coffins and caskets to suit different budgets; and accepting charity donations in lieu of flowers.
Helping arrange for ashes to be scattered or kept in a memorial casket; obituary or thank-you cards; and, if needed, transfer or repatriation of the person or their ashes.
Burials take place 10:00am–3:00pm; cremations 9:00am–4:45pm, with 30, 45 or 90-minute options.
Your funeral director books your preferred day and time with our office and completes the paperwork.
Applications to the cemetery office are 8:30am–4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
