A haven for wildlife

Worcestershire is home to fantastic habitats and a stunning diversity of wildlife, and our sites are no different. We have recorded 125 plant species and 18 bird species, including three Giant Redwood trees and the Green Woodpecker.

Both sites hold a stock of trees spanning a considerable range of ages, species and size, which makes a significant contribution to the character of each area.

Working with nature

In partnership with Worcester Beekeepers we introduced three apiaries into our natural burial area to promote wildflower growth and pollination, and in 2020 we cleared the brook that flows through the gardens and added solar lights. Significant features

Notable trees and planting across the grounds.
  • The dominance of coniferous and evergreen species in the Original Cemetery
  • Historic tree-lined avenues. Prunus at St John's and Fagus at Astwood
  • Veteran Black Pear specimens at the Cemetery Extension, remnants of the land's former use as an orchard
  • Significant Populus, Pinus and Fagus species in the Original Cemetery
